How to accomplish big goals in smaller steps and make 2022 an amazing year
Every year, millions of people across the globe make resolutions hoping the following year will be better than the last. Yet, despite their best efforts, only 8 percent of ambitious individuals make their goals a reality. To stay clear from this statistic and ensure 2022 is nothing short of magical, learn how to accomplish big goals in smaller steps to take the pressure off. You got this!
The pain of goal fatigue
Whether your new year's resolution is losing weight, saving money, traveling more, learning a new skill, or even living more mindfully; it’s common to feel goal fatigue. This byproduct of setting goals is real. It occurs when you either try to achieve too many goals at once or when you become overwhelmed at the thought of trying to tackle them.
How many times have you said you’re going to go sugar-free or read more books, and it never happens? You try to fit it in your day, but something interrupts your motivated attempt. Your kids interfere with your mommy time to read a book, a friend asks you out to a café, and it’s too tempting to resist that piece of velvety cheesecake - we’ve all been there.
In reality, the problem isn’t that the goal is too challenging or intimidating to achieve, it’s the path you choose forward that derails your progress. By implementing a few slight changes, you can accomplish your goals and enjoy plenty of rewards along the way - you deserve it!
Get specific and write your goals down
Saying your goal out loud isn’t enough. You need to get specific, reflect on your why, and write it down in vivid detail. If you want to run a marathon in 2022, write where you want to run through the finish line. Mexico City? New York? Also, think and write about how good it would feel to run a marathon. I’m sure you would feel proud, excited, and perhaps, even fulfilled.
When you associate emotions with achieving your goals, you activate your brain’s feel good neurotransmitters, and it becomes easier to focus on what is important to you.
People who visualize, describe, and write down their goals are 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to accomplish their goals than those who don’t. Pull out your favorite journal, and let your pen guide you.
Think of yourself as your own personal coach and create a list to achieve your goals in smaller steps. For example, if your goal is to start receiving more clients, instead of trying to market and find 30 at once, break it into as many tiny goals as possible;

Narrow down your ideal audience (Who do I want to work with?)
Determine which platform is best to find your ideal audience (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.)
Spend 15 minutes a day marketing to attract your ideal clients
Connect on Facebook groups to network
Update your headshots to translate a professional vibe
Breaking down your goals into smaller steps makes your goals less intimidating and sets you up for success. While you’re successfully tackling one small goal at a time, don’t fixate or obsess about the journey. Focus on accomplishing the next goal in sequence, and recognize each accomplishment as you progress, no matter their size.
Make progress one day at a time
Many people get in a hyper-focused rabbit hole and try to knock off one goal after another. Before they know it, they’re burned out and disappointed they haven’t reaped the rewards yet. Focus on one day at a time and allow yourself to bathe in the glory of your accomplishments.
For example, if you want to improve your time management skills, color-code your calendar or practice 30 minutes of time chunking. When you accomplish this smaller fraction of your larger goal, reward yourself! Reflect on how it made you feel, and start adding another small step the following day.
Change your routine to make space
A big reason many fail to accomplish their goals is that they haven’t changed their strategy. Look at your current routine and habits, and ask yourself if they support the goal you want to accomplish.
For example, if you want to increase your abundance, evaluate any potential obstacles preventing you from fulfilling that goal. Do you have any limiting beliefs holding you back? Have you fostered self-worth and believe you deserve more income? Do you feel comfortable charging your worth?
Spend time evaluating your inner-beliefs, your environment and modify any habits to set yourself up for success.
Celebrate your victories
If you don’t praise yourself along the way and reward each success, you’ll fall into a downward spiral of self-criticism, self-doubt, defeat, and even depression. Each time you accomplish a small goal and cross that item off your to-do list, take a moment and celebrate your victories.
Grab your favorite bottle of wine and enjoy that well-deserved glass. The more you reward each goal or habit, you reinforce the likelihood of that behavior reoccurring in the future. You’ll also expand your mindset and feel gratitude, which makes it easier to tackle any setbacks or challenges you experience along the way.

Entering 2022 with a positive attitude and celebrating your 2021 accomplishments will give you a sense of purpose, motivation, and pride to tackle your 2022 goals.
