NOT YOUR AVERAGE HEADSHOT

Our #1 Goal with Headshots is to make it FUN and EASY.

One way to make it fun and easy is by helping you prepare in advance.

Feel free to visit this prep guide as often as you need.

TODAY’S CORPORATE HEADSHOT

The corporate headshot has evolved. Today, it is very contemporary, styled, and it needs to immediately set you apart from your competitors. We are often meeting people for the first time through a digital medium - your image. Even though this is designed to be quick and efficient, it is still very important because it is representing you and making your first impression.

So let us help you prepare before it’s your time to shine.

The first thing people say is: It’s just from the waist up, right? The answer is NO. We shoot contemporary portrait style headshots so that you can showcase your unique personality. Some images may go from the mid-thigh up and some may go from the torso up. We shoot a variety so that you have variety to choose from and capture exactly what you want for the image that is representing you in the marketplace.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • We guide everyone through our signature headshot poses both standing and sitting. We do this by showing you the pose, then you mirror us. We make sure everything is perfectly composed before clicking the shutter. This helps people feel confident in what they are doing while we are composing the perfect headshot.

  • For staff headshots, we book in 10-20 minute increments based on the company’s needs and number of people.

  • You choose your backdrop based on your brand aesthetic. We typically shoot on white, black, or gray backdrops unless otherwise requested.

  • The location for all headshots is at our studio - JHP Studios centrally located in downtown Nashville at Marathon Village. We prefer for people to come to us. We know our space, the lighting, and the equipment needed. That said, if you want us to go on location, we are happy too. There is an additional cost for going on-site.

  • Retouching: We do a natural retouching of all headshot images that are selected. That means we will fix blemishes, flyaways, whiten teeth and eyes, etc.

  • PLEASE NOTE: We ask that you reschedule or cancel at least 48 hours before your appointment. If you are a no-show, you or your company will be charged full price for that headshot slot. If you cancel within less than 48 hours, you or your company will be charged full price. If you reschedule within less than 48 hours, you or your company will be charged 50% of the price.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • What is the style that best suits you and your brand? Dark and Moody? Light and airy? Editorial? Have no idea? No worries. Dark and moody is usually a dark backdrop with more dramatic lighting. Light and airy is more natural light with a light backdrop. Editorial is my journalistic style or candid…it means photographing someone in their environment.

  • Once you’ve decided the aesthetic and backdrop, you will want to coordinate your clothing with the backdrop. Look for outfits that match the tones of the images you are most drawn to. Also consider timeless looks so that your headshot doesn’t easily get dated. Make this image last as long as you want.

  • Consider your expression and projection. How do you want to portray your brand and your business?  Do you want to look friendly, approachable or like a Boss.

  • Consider how you want people to think and feel what they see your image.

  • For expressions, do you want a big smile, causal smile, or no smile? Or do you want to look strong, confident, and stoic? What mood do you want to project? Honest. Trustworthy. Or friendly with more movement and laughter.  You decide and we deliver.

  • Above all we want to showcase your style and personality.

WHAT TO WEAR: SETTING UP FOR SUCCESS

  • As long as you show up with a positive mindset and ready to have fun, it’s going to be GREAT! No negative self talk is allowed in our space.

  • Fitted Clothes are best. Oversized clothes may be stylish or comfortable but they can add weight in images and are not as flattering.

  • Go a more classic, traditional route that is timeless. Let’s face it, once we get a great headshot we keep it for years. So go with timeless.

  • Avoid busy patterns on your clothes. A small pattern is okay. A busy pattern is one that demands all the attention like plaid! No plaid, please.

  • Iron your clothes before the shoot.

  • Grooimg - shave, wax, trim your beard, get a manicure.

  • Clean your jewelry.

  • Please come makeup ready. Professional hair and makeup is recommended. We do not typically offer that service for headshots. It can be added upon request for 2 or more people.

  • Do get plenty of sleep the night before.

  • Do drink lots of water leading up to your shoot. It makes your skin glow and reduces puffiness.

BE ON TIME

  • If you run late for your time slot,  you are cutting into your own time. We do not adjust for you being late. If your slot is from 10 am-10:30 am and you show up at 10:20 am, you only get the remaining 10 minutes of your time slot. We respect your time and ask that you do the same for us.

  • If you are going to be 10+ minutes late, kindly reschedule your headshot for a different day when you can prioritize the time for it.
