Ashley's Session of Art, Glam & Family
I connected with Ashley immediately. We captured a lot of different types of portraits in her session- artwork, contemporary beauty, fashion vibe, and family. See below and be sure to check out the Behind the Scenes Videos of how we created these images at the bottom.
Being the main character in your own story can be powerful. Ashley texted after her big reveal and said "The art is epic. Everyone needs a picture that tells their story."
The short story behind the art we created is that Ashley took care of her Love, Sal, in the final weeks of his life. Sal died of brain cancer. He was happiest up in the air when he was flying to his next adventure. We wanted to create something where she could be close to the sky, walking towards where he was happiest; where, symbolically, he has now gone for his next long adventure which she helped him transition too.
Hearing her story did a few things: it broke my heart and hit me in my gut. My Love is a brain cancer survivor. My Love is a brain cancer survivor. As I sit across from her,
my eyes got a little wet as this beautiful woman gets vulnerable. I was so grateful to be sitting there with her, to hold space for her, and to ultimately create art and portraits that speaks to her on a soul level.
My hope is that this artwork will continue to bring her peace and healing everyday when she looks at it, as she takes it in.
Plus, she has all these other amazing, beautiful images of herself and her twin girls. Her girls are her everything. These images capture and stop time; preserve their family, and celebrates their lives.
And honestly, there's a ripple effect that happens in your life that is positive and empowering when you see yourself in a different way looking & feeling beautiful while standing in your own power. We all need a little of that in our lives too.
I believe my purpose is to lift others up and to empower them through photography and art; to capture their essence and show it back to them.
This shoot embodies that.
