10 Ways to Manage Stress
It’s the most wonderful time of the year….and the most stressful. But who are we kidding, all of 2020 has been stressful. It has brought a lot of uncertainty, loss of the way life was, and maybe even loss of someone close to you by a breakup, divorce, or even death. Someone very close to me died in October and it’s hard. Sometimes stress and grief go hand-in-hand. So let’s talk about stress and tools to manage it. I’ve learned to manage stress as a small business owner, as a survivor of a near-fatal car wreck, and surviving a very toxic relationship.
Different Portrait Types & When To Use Them
Portraits have several categories. The most common ones are weddings & birthdays or event photography, family photos, and headshot. But there is so much more the world of photography. My studio, Judith Hill Photography, is a studio that is centered on lifting people up, celebrating achievements, building confidence, treasuring life.
Here are 4 different portrait types and opportunities on when to use each type.
Art of Vulnerability
Sometimes we have to get down and dirty to express hard topics.
“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage,” Brené Brown in Rising Strong.
Maternity Shoots
“Giving birth and being born brings us into the essence of creation, where the human spirit is courageous and bold and the body, a miracle of wisdom.” – Harriette Hartigan
That's amazing and a moment in life that deserves to be ceased and captured.
How I do a Family Shoot
People often ask me if I photograph families. Yes, absolutely I do. I just handle it a little differently. I am always grateful that I get to meet and photograph wonderful families. I get the chance to know them individually and how their relationship with each other, which is a privilege to be able to capture lovely moments together and dynamic images.
Ashley's Session of Art, Glam & Family
Being the main character in your own story can be powerful.
I connected with Ashley immediately. We captured a lot of different types of portraits in her session-artwork, contemporary beauty, fashion vibe, and family. Ashley texted after her big reveal and said "The art is epic. Everyone needs a picture that tells their story." The Best Secret to Shooting Indoors
Please trust me on this. Sometimes, my girlfriends try and fight me on this but the fact of the matter is, you will like the image better if your face has evenly, diffused light on it rather than having a pretty restaurant scene in the background. So, what’s the best secret to having the best picture indoor? The best secret to shooting portraits indoors is…
Seeing Your Beauty
At my core, my passion is transformation and empowerment. It is the ability to see others’ beauty and strength then bring it out and capture it. Through a single photoshoot, a woman can be introduced and sometimes reconnected to something she did not know existed within her. Bringing that forward and capturing it on paper is the greatest gift I can give a person.
My mission in life is clear - to lift others up through photography. Photography is the medium; the purpose goes deeper than snapping a photograph.
Is Your Headshot Costing You Business?
First impressions matter. These days, your first impression is often on the web. When a potential client, employer, vendor, or referral source looks at your website, your LinkedIn profile, your Facebook page, or a printed marketing piece with your headshot on it, that person will immediately make a judgment about you and your business. This judgment will affect your bottom line. I’ve had clients say that updating headshots has helped get new business, and when headshots are done for the whole company, it also boosts morale.
Supporting My Community with Tomato Art
The 15th Annual East Nashville Tomato Art Festival is August 10th & 11th. Whoop!
For those of you wondering what the heck is the Tomato Art Festival, it is a festival located at East Nashville's 5 Points celebrating the Tomato. And when I say celebrate, I mean CELEBRATE! Why the tomato?
50 and Fabulous Photoshoot
As women, we are always so hard on ourselves so I like to try and turn that conversation around by changing the perspective with photographs and sometimes questions.
There are many reasons to have a photoshoot. One of those is reaching a milestone in life like turning 50. I am not 50 but I've always had close friends quite a bit older than me. One of the reasons is because I've always strived to be wise beyond my years, and I want to learn from them.
Creating Freedom in Your Daily Life
This image is about freedom. Something that I seek; something most of us seek. What I have learned is that freedom only comes when we have freedom within our mind and detach from outcomes. It comes when we stop resisting what is and find acceptance. It comes when we stop the chatter, cultivate faith, let go of fear, and trust ourselves.
