How I do a Family Shoot
People often ask me if I photograph families. Yes, absolutely I do. I just handle it a little differently. You see, I'm all about lifting women up. So mom comes in first and if she has a daughter then mom and daughter come in for the ultimate girls’ day out - hair and makeup and dress up! The boys come at the end for the final 45 minutes to an hour so that we can capture all the combinations of family...mom and dad, the children, just the boys, just the girls, mom and son, father and daughter and the whole family together. Also, if dad needs a headshot, we can do that too.
One of my favorite types of sessions are the mother/daughter sessions. I quickly realized that I am creating space and time for mom and daughter to spend quality time together creating fun, amazing memories through their experience. The photographs capture and celebrate the memory and feelings of that day, and the love that they share. To me, there is nothing more amazing than giving that experience.
During the shoot, the girls are getting hair and make up and wardrobe changes. You are looking and feeling beautiful. And because my hair and make up artist stays, we can even change your look through out the shoot. You can go straight hair to curly to a braid to an updo. Your makeup can go natural make up to glam. You are the celebrity on this day.
Below is a great example of this. This is the Fields family. René and Roxy came in first to get their hair and makeup done. We did a few individuals of them each in a couple of different outfits and we did mother/daughter; then the boys came at the end.
Not only is this family beautiful, they are heart-centered people. They really care for others. I got to meet a little girl that they help foster at our sales session. The whole family is having a positive, loving impact on this little girl which will help change the course of her life in a positive way. I'm telling you, hearts of gold below.
I'm so grateful that I get to meet and photograph some of the most amazing people.
